008. The Front
Time of Arrival to Venue: 5:30AM (6PM doors)
Number in Line: 26
Madison Square Garden was my hometown show, and first time in the MSG standing room ⎯ so it was of paramount importance to me that we had the best spot I could. I arrived to the venue at 5:30AM thinking I was early, but of course there were already 25 people ahead of me. While we were nervous we might not get rail, my friend Nina and I aimed for Ed's side of the stage, as we knew most fans aim for Thom or Jonny. The spot was perfect, as Ed's harmonies always give me the biggest chills, and I was beyond excited to share this moment with one of my best friends.
Time of Arrival to Festival: 10:30AM (11AM doors)
Anxiety Level: Through the roof
Lollapalooza was the place that I first learned that in order to get the perfect spot at a Radiohead festival set, you needed to run for it. Between this, my crippling anxiety, and a wristband malfunction, I nearly didn't make it there. Amid my despair and wristband setback, my cinematographer Tyler ran hard and was the hero of the day, getting us a prime spot in the center, where we stood next to diehard fans, Brian and Stephen. We'd met them at Madison Square Garden mere days prior. It was amazing to share such a special moment amongst new friends, and the set that night was truly electrifying.
Time of Arrival to Festival: 12:30PM (12PM doors)
Anxiety Level: I definitely blew it
We were running late to Osheaga due to some last minute travel plan shifts, and I was so scared that we blew it by getting to the festival a half hour after doors and missing the sprint. While Tyler got us veggie burgers to ration for the day ⎯ I lucked out nestling myself in a spot behind some of the coolest people I've ever met: Sarah and Alonso ⎯ Sarah, a badass Canadian fan whose seen Radiohead in four countries and had an OG Amnesiac tour t-shirt on; and Alonso, a 16 year old teen from Mexico City who was nursing a slice of pizza + Powerade, and had traveled to Montreal just for the show!
Time of Arrival to Festival: 9AM (11AM doors)
Anxiety Level: Must not go to the bathroom
We got so lucky at Outside Lands and landed the perfect spot, front and center, directly facing Thom Yorke. My friend Young came up from LA to join me for the show, and it was really special for us to see Air together before Radiohead came on. I was also so proud that Alonso, his dad and sister joined us from behind! I ended up exhausted at this show ⎯ especially with the crippling fear of losing this amazing spot I'd obtained, but after powering through this ended up my most impactful show of the tour, and was so happy to share it with a lot of fans that I knew!
